Z7451
Crashes > of the R.A.F.
The Blenheim IV, Z7451 took off from Watton on an attack on the power stations at Knapsack and Türnich. It was fired upon and hit by German flak in the area of the target. The pilot, Sgt Kenneth Victor Attew, suffered fatal injuries.
The other two crew members then parachuted. One landed near the Reichsbahnhof Königsforst in Cologne-Heumar, the other reached the ground near the flak position in Porz-Eil. Both were arrested by Wehrmacht soldiers and became prisoners of war.
The pilotless plane crashed into the banks of the Rhine in Porz-Zündorf at about 12:30. Sgt. Attew was recovered and buried in Cologne's South Cemetery. On 31 May 1946, his remains were transferred to Rheinberg Cemetery.
