Crashes > of the R.A.F.

The Wellington Ic, Z1115 was hit by flak from the 11th & 12th /III/Flak Rgt. 611 on its approach to Düsseldorf and shot at by the night fighter Hpt. Werner Streib and Feldwebel Ruscher of StabI./ of Nachjagdgeschwader 1 (NJG 1). The aircraft caught fire and crashed in the Harbeckerfeld near Wegberg.
The entire crew was killed in the crash and was buried in Cologne's South Cemetery.

Among the dead was the pilot, Pilot Officer Keston Pelmore. The grandson of German immigrants, he had lived in New York as a professional photographer since 1939. He returned to England at the outbreak of the war and joined the Royal Air-Force.
He is regarded as the founder of the BENTLEY DRIVERS CLUB in England, which had set itself the task of preserving classic racing cars of the BENTLEY make and racing them: The BDC was re-founded after the war and exists to this day.
