Crashes > of the R.A.F.

 
During the 1000-bomber attack on Cologne, the Wellington Ic, Z1113 came under anti-aircraft fire. At the same time, Lt. Franz Brinkhaus of the 4th/NJG 1 attacked the Wellington, which then caught fire and crashed.
The aircraft crashed in the Jackerath-Titz-Immerath area in an open field, three crew members could only be recovered dead and were buried in the cemetery in Mönchen-Gladbach. Three crew members were able to save themselves by parachute and were later taken prisoner of war by the Germans.
