W5427

Crashes > of the R.A.F.
During the bombing raid on Dortmund, the Wellington W5427 came into the sphere of action of, among others, the 2nd/3rd/Res Flak Abt. 331. It was hit and crashed at around 2:30 a.m., burning in an open field in Brühl in König Str., behind houses 35 and 37.
The five-man crew paid for their efforts with their lives; they were rescued from the burnt-out wreckage of the aircraft with extremely serious wounds.
The first burial took place at the Cologne South Cemetery.
