P5322

Crashes > of the R.A.F.

Hampden I, P5322 came under heavy flak from the 7th Flak/Div. during the bombing raid on Düsseldorf and crashed in Cologne city centre between Burgmauer and Elisenstraße.
However, there was no damage to buildings as the aircraft crashed into a debris area that had already been created during the bombing raid on 30/31 May 1942. Almost all the houses in Elisenstraße were burnt out.

Three crew members died in the crash, Sgt John Howard Morrison was the only survivor and was taken prisoner of war by the Germans.
