The Lancaster III, ND388 came under heavy flak and exploded with a full bomb load over Cologne. Most of the debris fell in the area of Bocklemünd and Butzweilerhof, the tail section hit the area of the airfield "Butzweilerhof".
The entire crew was killed and buried in Cologne's South Cemetery.
