During the attack on the railway facilities at Euskirchen, the B-26 ‘Reasigment’ was hit directly by anti-aircraft fire in the fuel tanks in its left wing. The aircraft was engulfed in a fireball, and the left wing was torn off. In a fraction of a second, the aircraft veered to the right in a huge fireball and spiralled towards the ground, where it crashed and burnt out completely.
None of the crew survived the crash; they were recovered days later by American ground forces and buried at Margraten Cemetery.
